Damson Idris Pays Tribute To Sidney Poitier in Dunhill At The Met Gala

Though the 2022 Met Gala's called for "Gilden glamour," you can't go wrong adding character to a classic black tuxedo at any black-tie affair. Damson Idris opted for definitive dressing at this year's Met Gala arriving at the annual fundraising occasion with Dunhill's creative director Mark Weston wearing a custom suit from the luxury brand.

The British-milled Barathea structured wrap style jackets feature silk peak lapels and gold button detailing that revealed itself as Damson moved. It was the perfect dinner jacket for the evening. A waistcoat with silk satin lapels, white cotton shirting, and cotton silk rolled neck completed the look, and paid homage to the suit actor Sidney Poitier wore when he became the first actor in history to accept the award for Best Actor at the 1964 Academy Awards. "Sidney Poitier's position in American history is undeniable. His fierce fight against inequality and yet his sophisticated presence and poise inspires me and many. For my first time at the Met Gala I wanted to pay homage. It feels special to collaborate with dunhill, a british menswear house born in London like I, and translate that grace," shared Damson Idris.

Mark Weston joined Dunhill in 2017 and, since taking the reigns, has designed confident menswear that is innovative in style while remaining connected to the everyday man like his guest for the night. On dressing Damson Idris for the first Monday in May, the designer shared, "Creating Damson's look for the Met Gala was a privilege and honouring a figure like Sidney Poitier feels poignant - he was a trailblazier and broke boundaries. To see a homegrown talent like Damson forging his own path is inspiring and I' m pround that he is part of the new legacy we are building at dunhill."
