PFW: Homme Plissé Issey Miyake SS24 Collection

There was something extra special about the HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Spring 2024 collection. As I readied my phone to capture a showcase in movement, usually seen in past runway presentations, out walks three models who rolled out a thin sheet of pleated fabric extending across the entire runway. Next, shirtless models appeared along with the Issey Miyake design team, who kneeled to cut the pleated fabric to reveal shirts and accessories from crossbody bags to headgear that they then styled on the first group of fellas before each of them walked the catwalk.

Honestly, I gagged!

The aesthetic of HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE --as well as other Miyake lines like PLEATS PLEASE-- lend itself to stronger spring showings versus fall. It's not that the fall collections lack pazazz. But, the lightweight pleated separates, usages of colors seen season after season, and the dedication to designing clothes that respond to the body in motion scream springtime. For Spring 2024, standout pieces within the collection include suiting, skirts layered over pants, extra long shirting, matching short and cropped pants sets, and a hot pink trench coat I'm vowing to buy for myself for Spring 2024. It was a very successful HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE showing. And to add a cherry on top, the two models at the end of their lines during the final walk ended the show with one leg spin, as a reminder that the clothes cater to movement.
