The Man Behind the Design-LaQuan Smith Met Gala 2025
LaQuan Smith shares with us the inspiration behind his Met Gala 2025 design’s and how he used the Samsung S25 Ultra to increase his productivity.
What was your creative inspiration behind the MET Gala looks you designed for Ciara and Halle Berry, and how did each look reflect their individual personalities or this year’s theme?
Inspiration Behind Halle Berry’s Met Gala Look:
“I wanted to create something for Halle that felt powerful, timeless, and sensual, a true homage to both her legacy and my brand’s identity. The look is inspired by this beautiful collision of Bond girl glamour and Harlem Renaissance elegance. It’s structured, sleek, and beaded in Japanese black bugle beads to create a sense of drama and movement. When Halle wears it, she becomes a sculpture in motion.”
“Throughout every stage of my Met Gala design process, my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra acted as my own personal assistant whether that was sourcing fabrics, organizing her fittings, or sketching her Met Gala looks.”
Inspiration Behind Ciara’s Met Gala Look:
“Ciara’s look is totally different from Halle’s but equally striking. It’s sculptural, futuristic, and dripping in liquid metallics. She’s serving body and movement. It's very much a nod to her dancer roots but elevated for the Met. She’s going to look like she walked out of a sci-fi dream sequence.”
Can you walk us through your design process using the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra—what role did the device play from initial sketch to final fitting?
“My Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was with me every step of the way. It let me sketch instantly, organize feedback in real time with Now Brief, and QuickShare fabrics and fitting photos on the fly. The AI features made it easy to keep my ideas moving even while juggling multiple custom looks. It’s my creative studio in my pocket. Plus, I’m using Nightography and Insta Slow-Mo to capture all the behind-the-scenes magic for fans to experience it up close.”
How did the Galaxy S25 Ultra elevate or enhance your creative workflow compared to more traditional sketching or design methods?
“The days leading up to the Met Gala are always intense with fittings, final fabric pulls, last-minute changes. What’s changed this year is how streamlined everything felt with the Galaxy AI. Throughout every stage of my Met Gala design process, my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra acted as my own personal assistant whether that was sourcing fabrics, organizing her fittings, or sketching her Met Gala looks.”
What specific features or tools of the Samsung device made the biggest impact in bringing your MET Gala visions to life?
"For me, it's always about pushing the boundaries with fashion and technology. The AI feature is such a great tool for me to explore futuristic concepts on a digital scale. It comes down to my silhouettes, my textures and how I can make my world a lot easier with fittings and scheduling. I'm really allowing myself to be forward-thinking. The AI feature is a great way to help with the world in which I live in."
