Maxwell And STATE Optical Co Launch Second Eyewear Collection

Maxwell is a vibe! Credited as one of the pioneers of the neo-soul movement from the late 90s, the "Sumthin' Sumthin'" singer has been the soundtrack to the progressive culture movement for over 20 years. And in recent times, he's backed that up by using his platform to promote voting in the state of Virginia, being an ally to Indigenous and Hispanic communities, and his support of Stacy Abrams, founder of Fair Fight Action. This black history month, the Brooklyn native is opting to make a change in style with a new accessory collaboration.

Maxwell x STATE Optical Co.

Launching on Thursday, February 10th (2/10/22) is Maxwell's latest design partnership with American luxury eyewear brand, STATE Optical Co. Found in this collection are two styles: SUMMER, aviator glasses that will be available in 3 colors, and REUNION, an Accessories Council award-winning style that first appeared in the collab's debut collection in 2021. Then, the three-time Grammy Award-winning artist told Vogue.com, What excited me most about this is, that it’s not just a vanity project. This has purpose. It’s going to help 20 students receive free college education optometry scholarships. The winners will have the opportunity to even open up their own eyewear store or their own practice, and I’ve always loved sunglasses.”

Much of the same is happening with this sophomore launch. A portion of all sales goes to The Vision Council Opening Your Eyes Scholarship (O-YES) as a donation. And this scholarship, which is specifically for underrepresented racial and ethnic communities, covers tuition and fees-- talk about giving back! “We’re excited to see everything these students will achieve, and I feel grateful to play just a small role in helping them reach their future career,” says Maxwell. “It has truly been a joy to be on this board. Our scholarship honorees continue to inspire me daily."

You can pre-order the eyewear on stateopticalco.com starting on 2/14, and retail starts at $375.
