Coleman Domingo Turns Standard Menswear Into Superior Style In Christian Dior
On Euphoria, Colman Domingo is Ali Muhammad, a recovering addict who meets Rue (played by Zendaya) at a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting and becomes her mentor. Off the show, Domingo, who also played supporting roles on Ava DuVernay's Selma (2014) and Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk (2019), walked the blue Independent Spirit Awards carpet for his work on Janicza Bravo's Zola. The comedy crime independent film drew inspiration from a 2015 viral Twitter thread from Aziah "Zola" King.
"First of all, I'm so happy to be here with my peers, especially for a film like Zola. The last time we were all together was at Sundance, right before the lockdown. It feels like these two years we've gone through so much together, and now we get to love on each other and truly celebrate each other. They say that, but I really do mean it we're all winners because we're here. We've come through something, we're healthy, we're alive, we're still creating, I feel blessed," the Tony Award-nominated actor told Extratv.
Coleman Domingo received a nomination for Best Supporting Male at the 2022 Spirit Awards, but he won on the blue carpet in Christian Dior. Black Tie events like an award show always call for a tuxedo, and wearing color is cool, but black is the standard. Domingo styled in the standard black, but a strip of fabric secured by buttons going diagonally across the chest added some visual pizzazz to the tailored jacket and pants, turning the standard into superior. Styled by Fashion and Celebrity Stylist Wayman + Micah, the two completed the look with jewelry -- one earring and a few rings-- and black and white loafers.
Leading the Spirit Award nomination with seven, the Zola cast took home two awards that night: Taylour Paige won Best Female Lead, and Joi McMillon received the Best Editing award. Domingo didn't sweep his category this time around, but he's taking home something better: sample-sized Dior Homme. “And one more thing…I’d like to thank The Whole 30, Dry January and Intermittent fasting for getting me back into a pure sample size in @dior couture. @waymanandmicah for the win,” he captioned an Instagram post.
